Corrosion and Prevention 2025, Melbourne, Australia
Heath, J. (Infracorr Consulting Pty Ltd)
A Hybrid Anode System was implemented alongside concrete repairs and structural strengthening to extend the service life of a reinforced concrete cooling tower. While Hybrid treatments have been used in Australia for over 15 years, few previous case studies provide in-depth discussion and data relating to the parameters used for the impressed current re-passivation treatment and to the assessment of treatment effectiveness. This paper presents key data from the re-passivation treatment, commissioning testing, and follow up testing after one year; offering insights into system performance and the parameters used for successful re-passivation. Additionally, it explores the factors that contributed to the project's success despite challenging site conditions. These include strategic design decisions informed by lessons from past projects, precise execution by the contractor, and the integration of technology to optimize installation and treatment processes.
