Lyndon, J. (Infracorr Consulting Pty Ltd)
Solutions for the repair of damaged or deteriorated assets often focus on utility and prolonging service life. Commonly the key emphasis for the asset owner will be on the cost of repair and the time the asset will be unserviceable. Legal requirements, such as those in state and territory building legislation, are often overlooked as remedial works do not always require a building permit and often have no oversight by local government or regulatory body for their compliance. The author will discuss some of the key aspects in legislation and the National Construction Code that may be appropriate to consider during the design phase of remedial works. These may include aspects associated with material properties and performance requirements; access and egress; and fire resistance. Examples will be used to explore the types of structures and works typically associated with the corrosion industry.
